Hope your week is better than Huma’s!
Once a cheater, always a cheater. As sad as it seems and as much as we want to believe the best of the person we love, a Tiger (Woods) doesn’t seem to change his stripes. In this case, that beast is disgraced politician Anthony Weiner, who was forced to resign from Congress in 2011 after being caught posting nudey photos of himself on the Internet. Though he apologized to the world and begged forgiveness from wife Huma Abedin, Weiner now admits that his illicit behavior continued. The rub is that now he’s actually running for Mayor of New York and unlike most men, who don’t get caught being bad, Weiner’s dirty laundry is hanging out to dry. But will America forgive him as his wife has? And should we/she? So here’s the lowdown. Weiner found a gal on Facebook (a journalist, no less), poked her, so to speak, and convinced her that he wasn’t the man the media had made him out to be. They sent each other more scandalous photos and had phone sex on the daily. The gal in question eventually cut him off after realizing that he was exactly who the media claimed he was, and in a preemptive strike, Weiner apologized.
He said that he and his wife – an advisor to Hillary Clinton (another woman who was publicly cuckolded by a politician) were “moving forward.”
During a press conference Tuesday Abedin stood by her man, saying: “I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him and as we have said from the beginning, we are moving forward.”
Weiner is certainly singing a contrite song now. “As I have said in the past, these things that I did were wrong and hurtful to my wife and caused us to go through challenges in our marriage that extended past my resignation from Congress,” he said during the same conference. “I want to again say that I am very sorry to anyone who was on the receiving end of these messages and the disruption that this has caused.”
But like I said about Tigers, they don’t seem to change, and Anthony Weiner has certainly proved this with his actions. Should this guy be mayor? I don’t know enough about his politics to say. But does this guy deserve to be married to the lovely and loyal Huma Abedin? That I can confidently respond to, and my answer is: NO WAY.
It’s like that old saying: trick me once, shame on you. Trick me twice, shame on me. There’s no way I can hate on Huma because lord knows what a woman in politics has to go through to even contend in the still male-dominated world. I can’t dismiss her as weak, because it takes strength to stick by someone you love, someone who has made you happy in the past. But I do pity her, and that, somehow is worse.
