Why Women Need Superheroes Like Ryan Gosling
When I heard that Ryan Gosling saved a journalist’s life, I wasn’t surprised. A guy who consistently wears his heart on his sleeve in films like The Notebook and Blue Valentine has to be a hero. He’s too good, too worthy too…perfect. And every single one of us deserves to have our very own Super-Guy like Gosling. Every single one of us deserves happiness.
So, let’s get to the good stuff first. The soulful star we all want to make out with (even if you refuse to admit it because it’s a ‘trendy’ thing to do) stopped a British writer from walking into oncoming traffic as she tried to cross NYC’s 6th Avenue Tuesday night. Ry Guy held her back as a taxi cab nearly killed her, and the rest is history.
Laurie Penny made headlines when she tweeted the news, writing: “I literally, LITERALLY just got saved from a car by Ryan Gosling. That actually just happened. I was crossing 6th avenue in a new pink wig. Not looking the right way because I am from London. Ryan Gosling grabbed me away from a taxi.”
An eyewitness called the journo a “lucky bitch”. Damned if she isn’t right.
Ryan saved this girl that he didn’t even know because he’s a good guy. Which is what each and every single one of us should be holding out for.
We all need someone who will open the car door for us, who treats us with respect and who calls when he says he will.
They’re such little things, and seemingly not-so-heroic. But, as a 31-year-old woman, I have to say that it’s the little things, the tiny gestures, that clue me in to who the true good guys really are.It’s the little things I yearn for.
To the guys with their grand gestures and empty promises, I salute you: you talk a great game. But it’s the silent heroes — the guys who hold me back from life’s many almost-calamities — that I want to be with in the long run.
I won’t wait around for Ryan Gosling, but I will hold out for someone like him. The guy I’m dreaming of doesn’t need to literally be wearing a cape…even if it’s invisible, at least I’ll know that it’s there.
