Here’s a big truth I’ve learned recently: In absence of resistance there is a big decrease in effort and struggle.
What does that mean? If there’s no resistance there’s no effort? Can this be true?
You’re probably like me; you grew up believing that if something’s worthwhile it has be hard. It should be a struggle to get what you want. It’s supposed to be effort. Well, I’m learning that’s not true. If you’re struggling, there’s resistance. If there’s resistance, then you’re not in the flow. Being in the flow, being in the zone, is where you want to be. This is where it’s easeful and light.
How to get there? Start with acceptance. Accepting where you are right now. Acknowledging what’s going on in your life is so much easier than spinning tales of what ifs and stories of fear of the unknown. If you’re in a bad mood, in debt, tired, sick, heartbroken, or jobless, instead of denying that or wallowing in the bad feelings, begin with acceptance. Say: “I accept I’m lonely. I accept I’m scared. I accept I’m sad. I accept I’m angry.” Once you accept your current state, you can take steps towards a happier, healthier state of being.
And once you accept something you stop resisting it. When you stop resisting everything changes. From this place of nonresistance you can get clear about what it is you really, truly want. You get clear about what serves you best. Move from this place of acceptance and ease and you make better choices; the universe opens up to you.
This is when it’s really fun. Because when you’re clear about your heart’s desire, you’re in the flow. You’re putting out that vibration. You’re attracting what you want. And there is no resistance.
I’m sure you’ve had times where you put something you wanted out there, and it just came to you. How did that feel? It felt great, right? And I bet in that moment you weren’t thinking you about whether or not you were worthy of this gift. You were simply flowing with it. You were tuned in and ready to receive more.
So why aren’t we in this state all the time? Fear, worry, anxiety, anger, all of these feelings take you out of the flow. And then everything feels like a long, hard slog. If something feels like a struggle stop what you’re doing, thinking, feeling. Take a deep breath. Take 5 deep breaths!
Try this exercise: Put your head down, eyes closed, and count to 4, then raise your head to the sky, do this 3 times. You’ve rebooted your brain.
After you take those 5 breaths, after you reboot your brain, go back to that state of ease. Remember what it felt like to get what you want. Live in that feeling. Then ask yourself what you need and want right now.
