October Highlights
Except for the transiting Moon’s occasional sojourn through Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, there are no planets in earth signs all month. Earth is grounding. With Fire (enthusiasm) the most dominant element all month, there will be plenty of energy pushing ideas forward. The month starts with Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto all Retrograde. Collective reflection will be a continuing theme all month.
On the 3rd Venus turns Retrograde, staying Retrograde until the 13th of November. We may view, question, and alter our own past presumptions.
Pluto turns Direct on the 15th, but will continue in very slow motion, basically standing still for a couple of weeks. As technology is moving at a rapid pace, this moment of Pluto (lord of the underworld) on the 3rd degree of Aquarius brings results.
Mercury turns Retrograde on the 24th remaining in his reflective mood until the 13th of November. Corrections come soon. Venus, in her Retrograde motion, re-enters Libra on the 25th providing gravity to personal appraisal during the last week of October.
The New Moon
The New Moon is on the 10th at 11:51 AM EDT at 17 Libra 22. With the New Moon Sextile Jupiter in Leo on the South Node of the Moon, the call of old habits can push us toward comfortable, but short-sighted, decisions. Venus (ruler of the New Moon) is Retrograde and Square Mars, showing our propensity to invite indecision, as emotional gridlock can bring us to a crossroads where all options entail uncomfortable solutions. Venus is also at the apex point of the midpoint between Saturn and Uranus, being Quincunx both. The good news is that determination and patience bring positive outcomes.
The Sun enters Scorpio
The Sun enters Scorpio on the 23rd at 5:39 AM EDT. With Retrograde Venus Conjunct the Sun and both Square Pluto (ruler of Scorpio), this will be an intense solar month. The Pisces Moon is Trine Mercury in Scorpio. Idealism is the backdrop of the passionate communications between people. Mercury Square Jupiter lends a feeling of conviction to everything we do.
The Full Moon
The Full Moon is on the 26th at 12:46 AM EDT at 2 Scorpio/Taurus 46. Pluto (ruler of the Sun) sits at the base of a T-square between the Sun and Moon. With the majority of the planets in fixed signs, movement forward requires effort and commitment to a consciously conceived plan. With Mercury (thinking) and Venus (feeling) Retrograde, change comes by admitting that we need a do-over in some area of our life. The balloon rises naturally when we let go of the string.
The Days
- 1st – Thursday – Venus Contra-parallel Uranus – Core patterns long set in stone start to break up, then suddenly give way. New avenues open and we can hatch a plan to go in a new direction. This isn’t so much a change of values as a revamping of methods.
- 2nd – Friday – Mercury Square Mars, Mercury Quincunx Neptune, Mercury Square Pluto, Mars Trine Neptune – There is a definite tempo that the very land itself seems to have an interest in keeping us moving. The only danger is that we “stop to smell the roses” while the work remains undone. Opportunities now are very time-sensitive.
- 3rd – Saturday – Venus turns Retrograde, Mars Opposite Pluto – Taking care of others is more important than merely finishing our own tasks. Our interests may be vast, but our energy and time are not. “First things first” needs to be our mantra. Complete what we must, then relax.
- 4th – Sunday – Sun Opposite Saturn, Mercury Contra-parallel Jupiter, Mercury Quincunx Uranus – We may feel stressed, or worried, or just lethargic; but then a sudden bolt of energy and enthusiasm can trigger us into action. Chances are strong that we will gravitate to the familiar, but then relish an opportunity to focus on new territory. Timing determines the victory or failure of any enterprise.
- 5th – Monday – It’s time for each of us to strut our stuff. Show others what we have and what we are capable of doing. We each have self-worth; however, we need to place this moment into a larger context. Can we see the value of a lifetime, a personality, and the role we play in other people’s lives?
- 6th – Tuesday – Mercury Conjunct Venus – Reining in our passions is prologue to being able to achieve a meaningful balance of intelligence and feelings. Impulses materialize values through action. Acknowledging past mistakes is an important step in development, but is counter-productive if it leads to wallowing in the past.
- 7th – Wednesday – Mars Sextile Uranus – Catching mistakes and ameliorating the damage gives us a leg up in the game of life. Correcting grammar is important, but that doesn’t mean the Gettysburg Address would have been better if it had gone to a proofreader. Speed is necessary and mouse milking isn’t the fastest way to get more dairy products.
- 8th – Thursday – Take care of remedial exercises, but this isn’t a great time to start a new endeavor. Rest, meditation, journaling, and just general inner work can be very beneficial.
- 9th – Friday – Mercury Quincunx Saturn – The big question today is can I simplify life without creating more complications? Will the cost of the detour route cost more than the new highway? Being simple means looking for the simplest solutions.
- 10th – Saturday – The New Moon is at 11:51 AM EDT at 17 Libra 22, Venus Square Mars – A clash of intentions can create conflict that doesn’t really need to happen. All relationships require extra precautions to prevent unwanted and destructive emotions from upending our plans. Flexibility is in short supply, but can be reached by innovation and thinking of long range consequences. When everyone is stubborn, war is inevitable.
- 11th – Sunday – Venus Contra-parallel Uranus – Personal sacrifices are necessary for the good of the community. How we solve problems collectively points directly to our values. A shift in public policy only has lasting impact when it is based on individual growth in consciousness.
- 12th – Monday – Emotional extremes paint a picture of rapid change in our relationship to each other, and consequently, in society as a whole. When we push collectively for a cause, we make progress; when we push against each other, we only create misunderstanding and augment separation.
- 13th – Tuesday – Mercury Contra-parallel Mars, Sun Sesquiquadrate Uranus – After taking a step forward, it behooves us to wait. If the results we are looking for bears fruit, great. If we seem to have made a mistake, it is best to wait, be silent, and see how things manifest.
- 14th – Wednesday – Big ideas and raw enthusiasm create circumstances where it looks like anything is possible. Of course there are actual limits to what can happen; dreaming optimizes our chances to create a new path.
- 15th – Thursday – Sun Sextile Jupiter, Pluto turns Direct – Luck is in our back pocket if we head forward with our initial plan. There will be a time in the near future for contemplating the virtue of what we are aiming to achieve, acquire, or build. For the moment, we must either seize the day or live with a near miss.
- 16th – Friday – Mercury Sesquiquadrate Neptune, Mars Trine Saturn, Venus Quincunx Uranus, Mercury Parallel Venus – The execution of big plans can allow a new appraisal of our situation to emerge through time. Recalibration is a natural byproduct of careful examination of the results of our efforts. As long as we are faithful to our tasks, the accumulation of our efforts brings results over a long period of time.
- 17th – Saturday – Regardless of setback and slow progress, we are on the right track if we just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Hard work and dedication pay off.
- 18th – Sunday – The testing ground for every relationship is how it endures and advances the spiritual progress of the people involved. Limitation of resources makes us prioritize. Time, money, and energy all have their place, and one can’t substitute for the other.
- 19th – Monday – We draw a line in the sand. We have our personal preferences; others have theirs. The deep love emerges by finding common ground. Enriching our experiences means eliminating what doesn’t fit and sharing what we can.
- 20th – Tuesday – Venus Square Pluto – We must be forgiving as others don’t come along automatically with our point of view. The trick to finding harmony is recognizing the out is up. We can’t change anyone’s mind but our own, and harmony doesn’t have to mean compromise.
- 21st – Wednesday – Venus Quincunx Neptune – When we find our emotional footing, our sight is clearer, and we make better decisions. The consequences for poor decisions now are not so easy to rectify. Innovations are necessary, but not helpful unless they emerge from deliberation. Our next steps needn’t be random, but will be original.
- 22nd – Thursday – Even though our journey must be taken by reasoned steps, our main decisions are launched entirely by emotional impulse. Each of us, in our own way, is plotting a new course. The weight of every change in attitude is counterbalanced by our desire for the well-being of others.
- 23rd – Friday – The Sun enters Scorpio, Venus Contra-parallel Mars, Sun Conjunct Venus – Dreaming is a reminder that not everything that is real is intelligible. We have already gathered all the data we need to reach resolution on salient features of the day. As the bubbles around us burst, we are left with what we have actually created.
- 24th – Saturday – Mercury turns Retrograde and will remain so until November 13th – Plans change as circumstances require some downsizing; carefully crafted ideas are reshaped by circumstances beyond our line of sight. Necessary materials for the tasks in front of us appear when we look for them. Many valuable treasures have been with us, if we have the good fortune to just look in our own pockets.
- 25th – Sunday – In her Retrograde motion, Venus enters Libra, Sun Quincunx Neptune – We can’t change our location, but we can make the environment we find ourselves in more pleasant. Peace may reign on the surface, but there is still smoldering disagreements underneath. The best we can do at times is not to create more disturbance.
- 26th – Monday – The Full Moon is on the 26th at 12:46 AM EDT at 2 Scorpio/Taurus 46, Sun Square Pluto – Many perceived difficulties never manifest as real problems. We let the aroma of a higher experience guide the steps we take as the world closes in. Having a reliable outlet for pent up energy can help us pass our time in a meaningful way.
- 27th – Tuesday – Heavy lifting seems to be necessary. We are struggling with the results of our past, but luckily, variations in the current pattern of habits open a door; will we walk through this passageway to a new life, or remain in our current situation?
- 28th – Wednesday – Sun Quincunx Uranus, Mars Sesquiquadrate Neptune – A shock can wake us to changes affecting our lives, but were perhaps unnoticed or unacknowledged. The urge to escape conformity prompts us to find our true voice and take a step forward. When we are led by our highest aspirations, we are headed in the right direction, even if closure is a ways away.
- 29th – Thursday – When we strive to create harmony and balance, the ship rectifies itself. New information has a way of matching up with what we already possess. Remaining positive is easy when we remember the trajectory of our path so far.
- 30th – Friday – Mercury Square Mars – Because the basic composition of the day is domestic and emotionally prudent, it behooves us to shelter our feelings while trying to stay balanced with everything and everyone else in our lives.
- 31st – Saturday – Sun Contra-parallel Jupiter, Mercury Sesquiquadrate Neptune, Jupiter Sesquiquadrate Saturn – We can easily bend ourselves out of shape trying to accommodate others. We can be driving and obeying all the rules of the road and yet traffic can be overrun with people not paying attention. Luck is with us if we just reach out and grasp it. Staying calm helps.
